The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) is available by the U.S. Department of Education which allows the student/parent to transfer their 2018 income tax return information onto the 2020-21 FAFSA application. Students are STRONGLY encouraged to utilize the IRS DRT! NOTE: you must allow 2-3 weeks after you/parent electronically file your tax return before you will be able to download tax return information onto the FAFSA; if filing a paper tax return, you must allow 8-11 weeks before you will be able to download tax return information onto the FAFSA.
Students NOT using the IRS DRT will most likely be selected for verification and, if selected, students/parents MUST submit an IRS Tax RETURN TRANSCRIPT to the MSU Financial Aid Office -- copies of signed tax returns will no longer be accepted (unless a foreign tax return has been filed or identity theft has occurred). Also, if selected, we may require additional documentation such as an untaxed income, proof of graduation, and verification of identity.
For taxpayers who filed an AMENDED IRS Income Tax Return, please provide both of the following:
An IRS Tax Return Transcript (which does not have to be signed), or acceptable IRS alternative, such as a Record of Account Transcript, a Return Transcript for Taxpayer (RTFTP), or an Information Returns Processing Transcript Request—Wages (IRPTR-W); and
a signed copy of the IRS Form 1040X that was filed with the IRS.
If a student/parent reports income-earned-from-work but did NOT file a tax return, student/parent must submit W2s to the NPC Financial Aid Office to document the income earned from work.

If this is your first time filling out the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA), and you haven't applied for an FSA ID, you should do so now. Your FSA ID is what allows you to complete the FAFSA paper-free! You'll need your FSA ID to make online corrections to your FAFSA, including changing your name and address, or adding/changing the name of a school to receive your application data. The FSA ID is also your identifier to let you access personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems.
If you plan to begin your studies at Crestpoint before the end of June,
please complete the
2023-2024
FAFSA. This is the current FAFSA that runs from July 1, 2023 until June 30, 2024.
If you plan to begin your studies in
July or later,
please complete the
2024-2025
FAFSA instead.
The Department of Education will generally process your FAFSA in approximately 3-5 days. Once your FAFSA has been processed, proceed to STEP 3.
If you have not yet done so, submit a
school application.
You will then receive a username and password from the Crestpoint admissions staff that you can use to log on to the site.
To begin the electronic signature process, log on to the website and click "Enrollment Agreement" or "Forms" on the Student Menu.
STEP 4: Your Crestpoint University required forms
Please complete the Title IV Authorization, Personal Data Sheet and Attestation of Graduation form. Please submit these forms electronically. To do so, log in to your Crestpoint account and the link to the Crestpoint Electronic Form Submission System will be visible on the Financial Aid page (just below in this paragraph)
STEP 5: Contact the Crestpoint Admissions Office to plan your course schedule.
STEP 6: You will be sent an award letter via email after you start your classes.
The award letter will give you a breakdown of your financial aid offer for this academic year. The award letter will include amounts for "Room & Board," "Books & Supplies," and "Personal." This is called the "Cost of Attendance" (COA). Crestpoint will only charge you tuition & fees. The award letter will arrive via e-mail to the address you have provided. Please type the amounts you would like to receive in the indicated boxes and then initial on the lines that follow. You do not have to accept the full amount of the offer. Remember that you will need to repay your student loans back when you graduate or become less than a part-time student. After you electronically sign the award letter, the Crestpoint Financial Aid Office will receive it via e-mail.
Don’t forget! You must apply for financial aid each year.
Applying for financial aid is a yearly process. You can submit your renewal FAFSA as early as January 1 of each year.
